What is REPREVE®?
The waterproof layer (known as PUL) of Roam nappies and wet bags is made from a fibre called REPREVE®. This innovative material is made from recycled post-consumer PET plastic bottles otherwise destined for landfill.
How is REPREVE® made?
To simplify things, post-consumer recycled plastic bottles are collected and sorted before being chopped, washed and melted. Then they’re transformed into a unique flake and chip. Finally, the chip is heated, extruded and spun into a filament polyester yarn.
To make Roam nappies, this yarn is then knitted into a polyester fabric and coated with a breathable and waterproof membrane that's commonly used for reusable nappies - this turns the polyester into PUL.
What are the benefits of REPREVE®?
REPREVE® is very soft and breathable, performing just like the standard PUL used for most reusable nappies. It’s estimated that 6 plastic bottles have been saved from landfills, oceans and waterways per Roam pocket nappy.
Compared with producing new fibre, making REPREVE® actually offsets using new petroleum, emits fewer greenhouse gases and conserves water and energy in the process.
REPREVE® is traceable through the Global Recycle Standard and is the only eco-performance fibre with U TRUST® verification to certify its recycled content claims.
REPREVE® is OEKO-TEX® certified. The OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 is the world’s leading label for textiles screened for harmful substances.
